Obama's birth announcement

It shouldn't really be necessary to waste time on stuff like this. The blogosphere has been littered with accusations and implications that Barack Obama is not qualified for the presidency because he was not born in the U.S. More recently there have been rumors that the state of Hawaii is suppressing the relevant information from public view.

In the first place, it doesn't matter where he was born. His mother was indisputably a citizen, and the relevant law states that "before the child was born, the U.S. citizen parent must have been physically present in the U.S. and its possessions for at least 10 years, 5 of which must have been after the parent turned 14." Some goons on the right fringe suggest that he was born in Africa, then "smuggled" into the U.S. That's not true, but it wouldn't matter if he had been born while she was circling the earth in a space capsule; he's still a citizen.

His birth announcement was published in the Honolulu Advertiser. I've embedded the lower left corner of the newspaper page above. Those who want to view the whole page can view a pdf by going to Wikileaks and clicking on the link.

It is also not true that the state of Hawaii has "sealed" his records for nefarious reasons. The Hawaii Governor's office has issued a public letter explaining that the birth records of ALL Hawaii citizens are nonpublic because of the risk of identity theft.

This kind of damnation by innuendo keeps popping up, not unlike a child's "Whack-a-mole" game. I'm not going to spend any more time rebutting them.

  1. First of all, Obama is a citizen as he is born of an American mother. However to be president he must be a natural born citizen --- born on US soil (McCain qualifies because he was born on a US military base). So it is very important to prove that he was born in Hawaii not Kenya. His Kenyan grandmother says she was there when he was born...

When Hawaii became a state in 1959, there were many people who resided there who did not have a birth certificate because Hawaii was somewhat primitive in that many natives were not born in a hospital. Hawaiian law established in 1911 permitted someone to register a person born in Hawaii who was one year or older whose birth had not been previously registered in Hawaii. This procedure was in place until 1972!

Maybe Obama's mother or grandmother applied for this registration after Obama was born in Kenya and that's why Obama wont release the vault copy...

Probably they got the certificate just on an affidavit alleging a home birth!

Why else wont Obama produce the certificate!

(it is called the "Certificate of Hawaiian Birth program" and I got it off the Hawai State Department of Health site)... http://hawaii.gov/vital-records/vital-records/hawnbirth.html I just typed it in.... if the web site address is wrong... just search that's how I found it!

  2. In 1959, wherever you think he was born, he was born a U.S. citizen. Why would his parents transport him halfway around the world, from Africa to Hawaii, or put a fake announcement in the local paper in order to make him a "natural born citizen." The only reason for doing so would be to qualify him to be President of the United States. That doesn't even approach the bounds of reason.

  4. Heh, reminds me when the democrats were trying to say that Goldwater couldn't be president because he was born in Arizona BEFORE it was a state.
